I’m Rosa and I’m Mexican, but I’m living in New York City at the moment. I’m an international student at The Juilliard School in the city. It’s a special school for talented musicians, dancers, and actors from around the world. I’m studying music. I play the piano and I sing, but I think I’m a better pianist than singer.
Is living in the U.S. easier than living in Mexico? It’s difficult to say. There are good and bad things about both places. I come from Oaxaca, a city in the south of Mexico. It isn’t as big as New York City, and I think the buildings are older and more beautiful. But I love living in New York. It’s more exciting, and I meet a lot of interesting people. I think I’m more sociable now, too.
I live in an apartment with two American girls. They’re at Juilliard, too, but they’re older than me. Our apartment is OK, but my bedroom isn’t as clean as their rooms. I’m more disorganized, and I have a lot of music everywhere!
One thing that is better here is my English. I have to speak it all the time at school. It’s good, but it’s more tiring than speaking Spanish!
